Principle of Operation - records of senses_Index
records of senses_Index is an ongoing serial drawing practice in which the body functions as a channel for sensory input and output. Each drawing records how this channel leaned, filtered, and translated stimuli during a fixed duration. The work operates under constant conditions: 7 × 21 cm paper, graphite pencils of three grades (H4, B2, B8), and a working time of approximately 120 minutes. Each drawing begins with a calibration between hand, tool, and surface. The friction of graphite against paper produces tactile, acoustic, and visual feedback that guides the next movement. After completing each drawing, I write a single-sentence response describing a perceived attribute of the result, for example: “too strong an emphasis on the contrast between hard and soft graphite.” This statement becomes the minimal feedback signal for the next drawing, which responds by adjusting or extending the observation. Over time, a sequence emerges that functions as an index of iterative self-observation. Repetition under fixed constraints allows subtle shifts in perception and decision-making to become visible. The drawings do not describe sensation; they record its passage. The Index presents a temporary cross-section of this ongoing archive.
