Shifting Modes
Shifting Modes gathers drawings that test how the drawing process reorganizes itself across different physical scales. The works range from very small formats (3.5 × 5 cm) to larger surfaces up to 100 × 70 cm. Changing the size of the paper shifts how the body prioritizes sensory input while working. In larger drawings, the process relies more strongly on haptic feedback: the weight of the hand, pressure, and the resistance of the surface during extended movement. In medium formats, visual distribution becomes more dominant as the eye continuously evaluates the balance of marks across the field. In the smallest drawings, the interaction becomes extremely localized, responding to the micro-structure of the paper’s tooth and grain. By moving between these scales, the project observes how perception and decision-making reorganize under different material conditions. Each work becomes a record of how sensory attention shifts when the physical mode of drawing changes.
